In recent days, the Employment Promotion Agency of Georgia has been actively updating its procedures for reviewing work permit applications.
Whereas previously an extract from the Register of Economic Activities was strictly required, there is now an alternative — and this is a significant simplification for applicants.
The main question: what documents should be submitted?
As of today, the Agency officially accepts several types of documents confirming business activity.
Let’s break it down by category.
For Sole Proprietors (SP)
1. Small Business Status
You may submit:
- a small business certificate.
This is the simplest and most recommended option (if you already have this status).
2. Sole proprietors on a fixed tax rate
The following is acceptable:
- a fixed tax certificate.
3. Universal option
You can also use:
- an extract from the Register of Economic Activities.
For company directors and founders
You may submit:
- Minutes of the director’s appointment;
- or an employment agreement (contract).
Important: The document must confirm:
- the director’s authority,
- and their affiliation with the company.
Why this is important
Many applications are put on hold precisely because of this field: Document of the enterprise’s activities.
Previously: only the Foreign Economic Activity Register was required
Now: there are alternatives, and they can be used
This significantly simplifies the application process and saves time.
Practical recommendation
To reduce the risk of suspension:
- Sole proprietors → submit a certificate (small business / fixed tax);
- Directors → minutes or a contract;
- Foreign Economic Activity Register → use as needed or upon request.
Important to note
- Practices change very quickly,
- requirements may vary even from day to day,
- after a suspension, the review period formally starts over.
But in practice, the Agency often maintains the original deadlines.
Conclusion
As of today:
- The Foreign Economic Activity Register is not the only option.
- In most cases, simpler documents will suffice.
And this is a key change that is important to consider when submitting an application.
