When applying for a residence permit in Georgia on the basis of:
- official employment, or
- running a business (through registration of a sole proprietorship),
it is necessary to prove that you have sufficient funds to live in the country for a year.
Legislative framework
According to the Law of Georgia “On Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons”, the minimum required amount is calculated according to the formula: 5 times the minimum subsistence level × 12 months.
The subsistence minimum for the purposes of residence permit is established not by Sakstat, but by the Civil Registry of Georgia.
As of March 18, 2025, the figure is: 1,152.5 GEL per month.
Thus, in the absence of confirmed income under an employment contract or in case of applying for residence permit as an individual entrepreneur (IE), it is necessary to provide a bank account statement with the amount not less than: 💰 13,830 GEL.
ESPERO recommendations: how much to really show?
Although the amount of GEL 13,830 is specified in the law, in our practice (based on dozens of successfully completed applications) we recommend to apply at least GEL 19,500. This increases the chances of approval — especially in cases when the migration service has doubts about other documents.
Important: funds must be available at the time of application and preferably deposited in a Georgian bank or other easily verifiable financial institution.
