A request for a certificate of tax residency of Georgia regularly appears in the chat rooms of entrepreneurs and expats. This document may be needed, for example, to avoid double taxation and not to pay personal income tax on income earned abroad in the country of citizenship.

Who is considered a tax resident of Georgia?

According to Article 34 of the Tax Code of Georgia, a tax resident is a person who has been in the country for at least 183 days during 12 consecutive months.

Important: a stay for medical treatment or vacation may not be counted in this period.

How to obtain a certificate: step-by-step instructions

1. Fill out the application for the certificate. Indicate:
   • Full name in Georgian (can be copied from the certificate of justice);
   • Full name in English (as in the passport);
   • Legal address (in Georgian and English);
   • TIN (9 digits) of the individual entrepreneur;
   • The year for which you want to obtain proof of residency.
2. Attach a copy of the first page of your passport.
3. Upload one PDF file with additional documents (e.g.: border crossing stamps, tax certificate, sole proprietorship certificate, etc.).

• Free of charge: the certificate will be prepared within 20 working days.
• Urgent: you can get the document even in 1 day - additional payment will be required.
• If online payment fails, payment can be made to the account 707017021 - details are at the bottom of the form. Payment verification is available on the website of the tax service.

If the request is approved, you will receive a bilingual certificate (in Georgian and English), which can be downloaded.
