The procedure for canceling an individual entrepreneur status in Georgia is as simple as possible and practically does not differ from registration. In most cases, the entire process takes from 1 to 7 days, depending on the availability of active bank accounts and tax status.
Step 1. Submitting an application to the Public Service Hall
First, you need to apply to the Public Service Hall to cancel your individual entrepreneur status.
The cost and timeframes are the same as for registration:
- 26 lari — standard timeframe of 1 business day;
- 76 lari — expedited procedure on the day of application.
The procedure can be completed in person or by notarized power of attorney if you are outside Georgia.
Step 2. Canceling small business status
If you had “small business” status (1 %), it must be canceled separately in the tax system. This can be done through your personal account on the RS.ge website or with the help of an accountant.
Important: if you have simply stopped working but have not submitted an application for cancellation, the tax authorities will continue to consider you an active entrepreneur.
Step 3. Closing bank accounts
After canceling your individual entrepreneur status, you should close all bank accounts associated with it. You can do this at your bank branch or online if the service supports remote closure.
What else you need to know
- There is no tax audit. After canceling your individual entrepreneur status, your tax account remains active—if necessary, the tax authorities will contact you as an individual.
- An individual entrepreneur is liable with all their property. Even after closing your individual entrepreneur status, you remain liable for any obligations that arose previously.
- An alternative to complete closure: you can assign the status “inactive” in your tax account—this will allow you to temporarily suspend your activities without complete liquidation.
