When applying for a work permit (WP) in Georgia, many applicants face an additional step: an online interview with the Employment Promotion Agency.
This is a standard procedure, but due to the lack of official guidelines, many people feel stressed and unsure of what to expect.
Let’s break down how this works in practice.
How the invitation is sent
After submitting your application:
- You will receive an email approximately 24 hours before the interview;
- sender:
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ; - the email contains a link to join the interview.
Technical details
The interview is conducted via a browser‐based service (usually Jitsi).
- No installation is required.
- Simply open the link in your browser.
Language
- English.
- Georgian.
If you do not speak either language, you must arrange for an interpreter in advance.
Interview format
Before the interview begins, the rules will be clearly explained to you:
- The interview will be video‐recorded;
- The interview takes the form of a question‐and‐answer session (you will be asked questions—you answer; you are not allowed to ask questions).
What this means
- Questions are asked only of you.
- You are not allowed to ask follow‐up questions.
- No advice is given.
This is specifically a test, not a dialogue
What questions are asked
The interview follows a standard checklist. On average, the interview lasts 10–15 minutes.
Typically, you will be asked:
- what you do;
- how long you have been in business;
- a description of your latest project;
- your employment status (contractor/employee).
Identity verification
Mandatory step: you must show your passport to the camera (the page with your personal information).
Important note: Clarifying your activities
The interviewer may ask follow‐up questions, such as whether your activities fall under prohibited or regulated sectors.
How the interview ends
After you have answered the questions:
- The recording is stopped.
- You are thanked for your participation.
- You are informed using the standard phrase: “The decision will be sent to your email.”
What you need to know
This is not an exam or a complicated procedure.
The purpose of the interview:
- to confirm that you are actually conducting business;
- to verify that your application is accurate;
- to rule out fictitious cases.
Practical tips
- Answer simply and to the point;
- Keep your answers straightforward;
- Prepare a description of your business activities in advance;
- Make sure your internet connection and camera are working.
